I obviously knew about the ad but always assumed that Carlos Fandango was a play on the names of some of the racing drivers ie Emmerson Fitipaldi , Juan Fangio etc
Little story about Mr. Fandango.
Back in the early 90's a blue convertible 105e anglia with white flames and V. Large bubble arches came up the drive to our w/shop in Acton. My partner Terry and I looked at one another and in unison said "Carlos Fandango". The guy got out and asked us to do a couple of jobs on the car, which we did. He is Portugese, and when we asked his name, guess what? Yep! CARLOS!! The thing was, he had never heard of Mr. Fandango. Anyway we ended up building the Anglia pickup (pic below) for him, and after all the piss taking he called it "FANDANGLIA"
