    Anti roll bar fabrication

    Hello all,

Can anyone give me some advice about how to make an adjustable anti roll bar? I'm thinking of the 'blade' type (straight bar with end pieces either bolt or welded on, and multiple holes for mounting drop links).

What I'm confused about is the right type of material to make the bar and the end pieces from.

    Any ideas?

My fabrication experience only goes as far as mild steel.

Can I cut Chromoly with a hacksaw? If I weld on the end blades will I muck up the material composition?

Hacksaw would take a while! Moly needs to be gas or tig'd although that also depends on the material thickness.
Blade type are available from Rally Design and Demon Tweeks I believe.

the main issue with chromoly is it needs to be tig welded with correct rods, bolting is an easier option. cutting isn't an issue but don't try and use pound shop hacksaw blades. I have made a few for people with bolt on ends and polyurethane pivots, it is something you can do at home with basic tools and a bit of time.

I guess a bolt on blade design means drilling the chromoly tube? Can this be done with an HSS bit?

Chrome moly tube isnt as hard to work with as You may think,
It can be hacksawed and drilled easily,

If you need to bend the tube you will need a machine suitable for doing cds etc,
And yes if welding it'll need to be Tig'd,

Diameter and wall thickness of the tube varies on the blade length in relation to the diameter of the bar.

yes rally design do one (for sierras but...) that has bolt on blade ends. they do different wall thicknesses for different roll stiffness.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.

I enquired about this and the guy at Rally Design said the bar was made from ordinary CDS. I thought that that can't be right??
