    Edelbrock carb choice

Two questions in one, I'm afraid. First off, what size Edelbrock carb would you put on a 350 SBC? It's going in a 5,000lb '60 Cadillac, so I'm more interested in torque and economy than outright power. As long as I can get in the ball park of the 325-345hp and 400 or so torques I'm happy. I've been told a 500cfm will do just fine.

Now I also have a Rover powered Zephyr that already has an Edelbrock 500 on it and sees some strip action. I'm putting together a 4.0 rover with a typhoon cam and flat top pistons.

I'm going to the states soon, so I was thinking I'd bring another 500 back with me. Looked in the summit catalogue and spotted the Edelbrock 'Thunder Series' carbs that allow you to control when the secondaries open. Price difference is only $30 or so. I guess that might be an idea for the Rover in the Zephyr, which could donate its carb to the cadillac.

So the questions are: 1) is a 500 Edelbrock the right choice for the 350 SBC? 2) is it worth going for the thunder series carb for the Zephyr? (I mean what does that gain for you on the strip on a 4.0 rover?)

    Cheers,

    Gary

You'll need to check this one out carefully as the cfm rates are calculated differently for Edelbrock to Holley , 1 inch of water to Edelbrocks 2 I think . In reality the 500 for a Rover is not far removed from a Holley 390 as the figures suggest.

    Some interesting info here

I'd personally be looking at a high torque dual plane manifold to make the most of it , everything working together for the same goal.

We matched everything on my mates 231 oddfire Buick , supoosed to be making around the 180-200bhp mark and he gets the same economy as my Pinto with loads of low down grunt still. 390 Holley on an Edelbrock manifold .
