I've read the other thread, one more daft little thing that might be worth checking is, is the timing slightly too far advanced, as it gets hot it could give the impression that the motors running lean because the mixture would pre detonate effectively giving the effect of advancing the timing further than it's set point. I'd possibly try retarding it a degree or two to see if that made any improvement.
Just a thought off the top of my head.

    Good luck

Does the temp gauge ( matched sender and gauge hopefully ? ) read overly hot ? What is the V6 in and with what rad as they are notoriously difficult to cool.

If all teh above pans out then 2 other options spring to mind, lack of return fuel line to tank IF the carb is set up for one or lack of phenolic spacer between manifold and carb. This was used to prevent vapurisation and fuel locks.
    That's one comfortable sleeping donkey.

i used to have 3 ltr capri a few years back with the same issue. i even fitted a holley instead of a webber. after spending quite a few quid the cure was????

6 plugs. the ones that were in the car were the wrong temp ones.think they were colder running plugs for a pinto, although these fit they dont run hot enough there fore braking down when the engine reaches it normal temperature or above.

if you havent tried that maybe worth looking into

    cheers

thanks for all the advice and tips, will try plumbing in the transfer hose, gauge and sender are matched and read accurate stat opens at 88degrees but gauge spikes to 100degrees when stat opens electric fan starts at 95degrees and cuts out about 90degreees when falling, plugs are for a v6 and new from burtons. when its running ok i'm going to put it on the rollers and check fueling set up etc. oh it's all in a dolomite sprint and has a 'big' radiator from god knows what.

Try the timing first. Then progress to the thermostat and fans.

I did have a lot of debris in the dizzy cap once so really i guess that should be pulled and cleaned out as well, a good time to do the timing. That'll be a new one for me, never attempted it
