    Scimitar re-body; I don't want to chance a BIVA test !!

I'm abandoning my 1969 Scimitar SE5 refurb, as the body is so poor.

Instead I'm looking to drop on a used / chopped pickup type body (that in itself has been altered)

    and, a Range Rover V8 engine, with a Rover's SD1 gearbox.

    From my research so far, my Scimitar will retain;

    The chassis intact and unaltered
    Front axle & suspension
    Rear axle and suspension
    Brakes as standard
Steering rack as standard (but with different column)

Is this sufficient to retain the current tax-free status, and mean no BIVA needed ?

Does it matter that the Scimitar has been off the road since 1980's (ie pre-SORN) ?

It is registered correctly on a V5 document

    Any help appreciated

    Rebodying – A clarification |

Note that you cannot remove outriggers and, also noted in the above article, you must make the body fit the chassis and not the other way round . That means the body must bolt direct to chassis and not via intermediate crossmembers.

No, doesn't matter it has been offroad pre sorn.To complete the process legally the finished vehicle needs inspecting and the logbook description changing.

Yes - chassis is absoluteley standard. Out riggers replaced like for like (albeit with slightly thicker steel box section for safety reasons)

Dimmensionally the same as was in 1969

Body has been cut / modded to suit, and will be affixed to standard chassis with a combination of direct bolts and u-bolts

I do note that Relainant didn't stamp the chassis back in 1969- so no VIN number on the chassis itself

I have the V5; should I just stamp it myslef ?
