a dormer for the car lift is a great idea, never though of that one.

    How's this progressing along?

Looking to build something, but probably half the size of that. Bit limited on space and have to go for planning permission as I want it higher than 2.5m (it's going to be with 2m of the boundary).

To what extend has/will building regs approval impacted your build? Has it caused any constraints?

    There are general rules here:

    https://www.planningportal.co.uk/inf...3/outbuildings

But in the case of you wanting to build higher than 2.5m within 2 metres of a boundary, it does depend whereabouts it is, (it's easier if it's at the rear with a rear alley and other garages there), plus if it's apex roof you can go 2.5 metres high at the eaves at the boundary, and then 4 metres at the ridge, (if the ridge runs parallel with the boundary), which will be (or most likely will be) further than 2 metres from the boundary. Plus if you are on a slope, all measurements for height are taken from the highest surrounding ground level, not the lowest, so that gives you a bit more. AFAIK if you go with a precast, all reputable suppliers make sure their products comply with building regs, you just need to keep within the size constraints.

"The total area of ground covered by buildings, enclosures and containers within the curtilage (other than the original dwellinghouse) must not exceed 50% of the total area of the curtilage (excluding the ground area of the original dwellinghouse"

Loads more about permitted development that you can trawl through here:

This prefab is smaller in volume to the 2 storey block building I had full planning granted , I am now ready for the roof to go on and in the process of fitting the doors
I have had bit of a setback due to having a mini stroke and spending a few days in hospital , my Son and Grandson are helping me out but limited to weekend work until I get fitter myself

Hope you are getting better after your stroke. Just take it easy you have been waiting 20 years for your workshop, your health comes first so a few more weeks for the workshop will not make much difference.

As others have said; keep well Dave...little by little and all that. There's no real rush, it'll get done. I love build threads, cars as well as Garages/Sheds etc.
