    2D CAD software?

Any recommendations for an affordable CAD program (or do we have to call it an app nowadays?), for general hobby use? 2D is OK for what I will use it for. In the past I used TurboCAD which was always pretty unstable but eventually had the option of working with DWG files. More recently I have used DraughtSight which used to be free for home users: I have a new laptop and they have changed to an £80 a year subscription, and I'm definitely not into this subscription software scam. At work I use AutoCAD LT and that's something like £400 a year I think.

So, 2D and DWG compatibilty are the main requisites, but using similar functions and UI to AutoCAD would be good (DraughtSight is fairly good in that respect).

I think you can still use the older versions for free, try and download 2018...

Thanks, tried that but the actual download link seemed to go to Dassault's site and a dead end, unless I did something wrong.

I read with interest your posts, thanks Dodgey & Jack Griffin, I wouldn't mind a free AutoCAD or similar software. I tried the link above and all seemed well until 'not found' popped up. I'll keep an eye on your thread. BTW I use TrueView to open .dwg drawings but cannot edit or draw with this free software. Good luck in your search.

My bad, it seems they have disabled the older versions from working....https://blog.draftsight.com/2019/11/...me-to-upgrade/

I used to have a ripped copy of Autocad LT, (it was old, 2000 or something but does what's needed). If I find the disc I'll let you know.

I use Libre-CAD, free to download and very easy to use with a help forum.
