Anyone watch the programe on the rebuilt Mosquito on Sunday?

Last Sunday at 8pm on C4,was a programme on the only existing Mosquito, that has just been rebuilt. An ex army chap, stuck in a wheel chair after a car crash presented it and if you didn't see it ,try and catch it on your computer or what ever C4s equivalent of I-Player is-its well worth it and a must for any true petrol head.
Meanwhile, over on BBC 2 at the same time,Jezza,Hamster and Captain Slow build a hovercraft out of a transit van and it all goes wrong-oh dear ,I feel a yawn coming on .:****er:

I saw it, what a fantastic machine it was/is. It seems to have been forgotten about in military history and was very under-rated.

Billed as the plane that saved Britain, it was definitely under-rated it could out perform the likes of the Spitfire being so fast that defensive measures were considered unnecessary and it was all made out of wood by cabinet makers.

For anyone interested in these marvellous machines the De Haviland Heritage Centre is well worth a visit

Watched it, it was excellent. You can still see it on 4oD catch up. Highly recommended viewing.

Great stuff indeed. Used to see one flying at various airshows until the 70's

Last Friday evening the bloke that MOT's our cars rang "Bought something I want to show you... I'll pop round" 15 minutes later he's outside with a Rolls Royce Merlin engine in the back of his pick-up! It came from a crashed aircraft and it's purchase has been a long term process (the investigation & insurance procedures have taken more than 7 years to complete). It could be a 'Packard' built engine - the magneto's & some other ancillaries are US built - but the block will make one hell of a coffee table!
I'm going to volunteer to strip it for him - I'd love to win the bent camshaft for a piece of garage art.

The mossie was a great plane, it could outrun anything in the air at the time. When they first built them they didn't even put guns on it because nothing could catch it to have a dogfight!
It also had a 4000lb bomb carrying capacity which was the same as the early B-17 flying fortress. It could do two bombing runs over Germany in the time a B-17 could do one.
They fitted some them with 32mm cannon in the underbelly that could blow a hole in the hull of a submarine.

Until work went feckin balistic for me I was a volunteer down at the mossie museum in London Conley, if you are in the area please make a visit, they really need the support

    Thanks

My Grandad said "Fight Fire With Fire".... Probably why he got thrown out of the Fire Brigade.
