    Being realistic...

...what rod / custom and with what running gear IF you only could have one car to fulfil all your needs including being a daily ?

With thanks to Stude Star / Kustom Jim for starting this line of thinking

at the moment my 1995 gmc safari is my daily come pick things up from a diy shop as well as other things does 20 to a gallon around town and 28-30 on a run.it has air conditioning ,electric windows22 inch flat screen tv, ect ect and I can sleep in it at rod meets and drag racing events .had it 9 years the vehicle is a good all rounder seats 7 when needed and it`s still worth what I paid for it 9 years ago .not really a rod or custom . i wouldn`t mind a 60`s suburban with that running gear

My prefect on the road now, I’d love the Essex V6 to have a supercharger, but her indoors said nothing sticking out of the bonnet, can’t wait.

My girlfriend’s 66 Mustang could be used as a daily no problem. It’s reasonable on fuel, handles/stops well, isn’t too big. We’ve used it camping, going to the dump etc. Been to the Dordogne and back etc. If i didn’t lug around loads of stuff then I’d use it daily and sell my van. The fuel it drinks would be offset with depreciation of a newer car. Also you’d get to drive a Mustang every day. We’ve done about 5k miles in it in the last couple of years.
A cheaper alternative would be a Falcon or El Camino

My 87 Camaro was my daily for 13 years - not the best looking car, but it was damn good looking from the front. It was 100% reliable, comfortable, reasonable on fuel (305 with TPI) and it still could carry 400 bricks in the back - carefully stacked. With the V8 and LSD it was fun every day - never got bored of driving it.

Something along those lines with a modern 6 speed injected LS7 would work for me.

I think it would be a VW bus. Probably a late bay, upgraded with Porsche brakes all round, 911 gearbox, electric power steering column and a fuel injected and turbocharged big cc motor, around 2387cc, 200bhp or so in a fairly mild tune, with another 100 when the map is changed. Interior would be modular and lift out when needed, converting from microbus to camper to empty van.

57 Apache truck, Jag running gear, optional camper body for dogs and crashing in at bike shows, surf gear......and a tow hook for bike trailer when camper is on.
Or a 59 El Camino...for that I change my lifestyle and kip with dogs and a sleeping bag in the back!
