That's great but I really don't get the awards stuff.

I understand those that get it for charity work and the like, but not just for doing a job.we all do jobs with no recognition.

Anyone explain how it all works.what makes someone who works for a government department, any more important than say someone who works for Tesco,s for 50 years

I guess Tescos give their rewards, the British Empire gives theirs....simple as that ;o)
(though I would prefer an OBE to a packet of custard creams)

Gok Juan !? Got an ward and was so humbled and chuffed. Totally made up and so proud, he's excited about taking his mum.

It's a wonderful thing. (In this oft hateful ****hole we exist).

Even if you removed the Royal connection it is still an exemplar honour and recognition of contribution to this country (despite everything).

I'd swim up a river of ****e to doth my cap to Liz!

Hi , nobody , she got the award for working with vulnerable HMRC customers , nothing to do with her 40 year service ,my fault, and yes we do go to buck palace but it could be 1 of 4 royals , we as a family are really proud as of her achievement, she’s read all the replies and really liked kustom Jim’s last sentence.

Its the practice and behaviours of some people in HMRC that makes some poor sods vulnerable.
Well done to your missus for helping out to fix what the A holes in that organisation create (i know a few HMRC bailliffs and they destroy lives on a regular basis, mainly the kids of the parents who think tax is for others) i have heard stories of asset stripping (and they were pleased with themselves) that left families destitute and closed small businesses that affected the employees more than the business owner.

LOL I would be the cocky **** that refused to except it off those Gangsters that live in a house that takes £380million a year off the tax payer to "run" it. Horrible people

    Well said, very well said.
I work in nuclear that is totally taxpayer funded and to listen to some of the so called engineers that have never built or delivered anything talk about their pensions ( all the time) (1 million+ pension pots for middle management positions) is sickening and it galls me to hear them. And in meetings they say "look we are spending taxpayers money here" while having a porsche as the first car and high end bmw or audi as the second, as well as 4 holidays a year to expensive places, says more than enough about public sector employee hypocrisy than most journalists could get away with.
Like i say, i see this every day and its not right but yet they all still preach from their hymm sheets:****er:
