After my dad died my mum got hit on for a tax return and demand every year, despite having a pension income taxed at source and about the same as the average personal allowance. My kid bro who has experience of these things managed to turn the demand around so it was either neutral or they owed her a pound or two. This went on year after year despite him asking what was the point, but it took about eight or nine years to resolve. All seemed quite a costly exercise administratively.

Hi thanks for the replies, what can I say , we as a family are really proud of her regardless of this nomination, she didn’t ask for or expect it, and yes there are more deserving people out there, i never thought that in my lifetime any one in my family from a mining background would achieve any thing like this, so yes I am bragging,

You've every right to be proud. An OBE is quite an achievement. A couple of my cousins in the RAF have got MBEs, as has a pal that has achieved a lot from very modest beginnings. He's single, so took his Mum along to Buck House, and you don't have to imagine how proud she was.
