Car tax and can i drive it?

My car tax ran out so i sorned it for a week untill i had the funds to tax it again as didnt want to get fined. I paid for the tax online Tues at about 3pm. I could do with popping out in the car tomorrow but aint got the new tax disc. Am i legal to drive it or do you have to diplay the disc if its on the road? Its now 8 days since the tax ran out but it has been paid. I dont want to get pulled and chance being done for not displaying the tax.

Re: Car tax and can i drive it?

According to the DVLA, nope as it had expired more than 5 days ago

    http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/Evl...ons#QUESTION_9

I have not received the tax disc. Can I use the vehicle without the tax disc displayed?

When you apply for a tax disc online or by using our phone service you are able to legally continue to drive your vehicle for up to 5 days after the tax disc has expired while you wait for the new tax disc to arrive. This will only apply when you have applied for a new tax disc before the current one expires. You should continue to display the expired disc on your vehicle, until the new one arrives.
I did with mine though and never got picked up. The reg will still show as taxed

If you do then it's worth printing out the application receipt that they email to you as it has all the dates, details and reference numbers required

What he said. But leave the old disc in the window. No disc equals failure to display. Totally different from having an unlicensed vehicle. If you have proof that your vehicle is licensed it should not be a problem.
Had the same crap a few years back and common sense (that's a rare one) prevailed.

I thought that because its all electronic now, if you did it online and keep a copy of the confirmation email the car is taxed and so shouldnt be a problem

That's the saft thing, the offence isn't having an unlicenced vehicle, as Al says it's for failing to display a (valid) tax disc
