    Careers in auto fabrication advice

I am looking into doing auto fabrication or perhaps restorations when I am older, as full time employment. Companies which do stuff like making roll cages, rust repairs/welding, engine stuff perhaps. Btu I am unsure how I would get my foot on the ladder as it were. Any advice about how one woild persure a career like this would be much appreiciated. Qualifications, salary, hours ect.
