I know this will sound odd, but have you considered a Suzuki Swift?
We had a Swift Sport for a while and it was a great little car. Leather seats, aircon etc etc, and 4-door which (at the time) was handy.
Economical as hell too, and none too shabby in the get-up-and-go department.

Ford Fiesta for me , me and the wife have had 5 between (diesel, 3 cylinder petrol, and ST's) not had a bad one yet. I looked at the Suzuki swift as ,seems like a nice little car It was only the performance that put me off, Not that its that bad just my choice.

    Cheers ian

I drag cars in for a living and always get asked this question. My answer is, that I can only go on what I drag in for repair and I can honestly say, Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai and Fords are hardly ever on the back of my truck. In fact I can probably name every Toyota I have had on in the last 8 years, and only one of them was a breakdown, the rest was things like clutches etc.

I bought an 18 month old Golf 2.0TDI a few years back - expensive to buy and mega expensive to maintain (at main dealer).
It had its fair share of issues too, most of which the dealer insisted where almost unheard of - I was unlucky !!
The 5.9 Dodge Ram I ran daily for 4yrs worked out a similar cost when all running costs where included.

    I bought a VW Polo 1.2 2yrs ago,
it was the only way to get a half decent PX allowance on the Diesel Golf.
Only needed servicing so far in 20k miles.

But it's gutless unless you keep it buzzing and does less than 40mpg (25mpg less than my old TDI Golf).

    Don't go VW.
