    Daylight Running lights

They seem to be on all or most new cars nowdays, are they mandatory?
They are a pain in the ass (was going to put this in rants but its a proper thread subject) I saw a new car (Honda I think) the daylight runners were in the same cluster as the indicators and they were brighter (so you couldnt see the indicators)
Im not saying that the daylight runners are a bad idea but for them to work properly they would have to be on there own away from the other lights They would also work better of they were all the same brightness.
I remember Volvo trying this out back in the seventies and everyone use to flash at them for a joke (I seem to remember that Custom Car used to encourage this)

Why the f**k don't they link them to the rear lights because so many ****s are driving on them and not realising their headlamps are not on and have no rear lights on?? Oh yeah, another great idea from car designer or government,I forgot, total waste of time!!!

i got into the habit a long time ago of turning the lights on whenever i get in the car day or night , the way people drive over here i want them to see me coming . i dont know why they dont just design the thing so all the lights come on the minute you start it rather than having to switch it to auto , dont know how many people i see driving at night with zero lights on RAY A in sf

I seem to remember back in the late 80's a thing called 'dim dip' where if the sidelights were on the headlights came on 30% (IIRC) brightness with the engine running so you couldn't drive on just sidelights? It didn't seem to last long.

Those ****y 'directional' running lights do my head in... just look like they got a loose connection.

I remember having an old A35 fail its MOT because the side light went out when the indicator came on!
    But nowadays that's perfectly legal!!

I think the side light going out when the indicator is on is a good idea as Big Joe says in post 1# with modern cars and the lamps all clump together it is sometimes hard to see when the indicator is on.
