    Driving in Spain

We're driving down to southern Spain (Almeria) next week for the first time and are looking for some advice or information from anyone who has done this. We're taking the ferry to Santander and are driving the 650 miles to Garrucha. We will need Sat Nav but not sure how to go about it. I have a fairly new Binatone. Can this be updated with a map of Spain or can we download a free map to our phones? I must add we're novices when it comes to all this technology so it needs to be as simple as possible. Thanks.

My mrs is from carbonearas in almeria..I use google maps to get around on my phone...used it to get to hockenheim in 2015 with no issues..

Turn the traffic function on..red roads mean no bueno..

Was in santander a few months ago. Cool place..the roads out there are ace.watch out for the toll roads.sometimes it's better to use them just to avoid hassle..

You will enjoy the drive..take a camera.the terrain goes from green to desert..

Carboneras is a place we'll be visiting along with Villaricos, Roquetas etc. That's why we need a sat nav! If I use Google maps does it use up my data or is it free? I've got an older phone and it doesn't have a lot of data.

I'm just back from north of Murcia, did a bit of driving of local car. The roads are lush, the tolls have dropped a lot due to off season.
Road checks with the local fuzz and feared Guardia are on roundabouts off the motorways in to towns.
I downloaded the local maps but ya know what, [email protected]@glemaps is brilliant anyhoo. Make sure ya got Google translate working and it's a bloody hoot!!

I can't wait to do the Santander drive down in my own wheels

We love Garrucha and the furthest we've been from there in the past is to the end of Mojacar playa by bus! Never driven in Spain.
I really need to find out the best way of getting from Santander down to the south. Maybe I'll have to use Google maps, just hope my mobile holds out!
    Thanks for the info.

We do Santander to Castalla just outside Alicante regular , 480 miles in 8 Hours no problem . Come out of the port and no roundabouts or traffic lights until you got to the end of my road 480 miles later . Wonder where the EU money goes , just look at Spanish infrastructure , great roads and trains .

My next query was going to be about overnight accommodation once I've sorted out the journey. Thanks for that, I'll check it out and the chiringuito when we get to Carboneras. Cheers!
