    Emissions question.

My daily passed its MoT last year after fitting a new cat.
The HO and HC readings are fine now, but the lambda is 1.027, very close to the upper limit of 1.030.
The garage said it might not make it this year, but it has been suggested to me that an engine flush + oil and filter change might improve my chances.

    Any knowledgeable opinion appreciated.

    Oil and filter change

Injector cleaner added to fuel before MOT (a week before)

Decent run about 2 days before

Make sure no exhaust leaks as that can pull down the lambda if its between the 2 lambda sensors

Italian tune up on way to the MOT station so its nice and hot

    Cross fingers

    I like that.
Is there an optimum Time for oil and filter change?
    Mot is 6 months away.

Not really unless its been neglected and the oil is really dirty in which case now and just before MOT

An oil change would possibly lower CO and HC but a high Lambda indicates a weak mixture, not rich, so it may make things worse.
Possibly a vacuum leak, stuck EGR or a lazy O2 sensor.

Do you know anyone with a diagnostic reader?
They quite often can read a handful of real time data, so you could get it checked to see what the lambda reading is from the ECU, as well as checking for fault codes.

If that is reading 1, then it could be a failing sensor, or a small leak in the exhaust before the sensor.
