Can't comment on that one but Jonathon Sutherland has built a fully fuctional mini V8 and put it in a scale slingshot dragster frame. I'm sure someone will come up with a link soon.

About as hard as the hardest thing you can ever think of, with huge amounts of extra added hardness you can't even begin to contemplate. It always astounds me that people can do this kinda stuff, the skills, talent and accuracy, as well as the patience and determination, required to create something like that is waaaay beyond what most of us mere mortals will ever ever achieve. Respect.

If you're asking how hard it is to design and build your own engine, then I'm afraid it's impossibly hard to do, as in erm, impossible.

You need to be a good designer, machinist, engineer, tool maker, and also have a **** load of spare time and patience.

Not to mention having intimate knowledge of the workings of the internal combustion engine .

I've wondered how hard it could be to make one out of 50cc scooter parts, copying the combustion chamber and intake/exhaust port designs. You could use the pistons, rods, cylinders and heads off the shelf

    8 carburettor 10,000rpm 200cc 2-stroke V8 anyone?

Long before anyone on here was born (probably, apart from me...), you used to be able to buy a kit to build your own four-cylinder bike engine. Basically you got a set of unmachined crankcases, and some instructions. It used NSU Quickly (a 50cc moped) top ends, rods etc. As I remember (correct me if I'm wrong...), you scored a load of old Quicklies, stripped them down, pressed together a bunch of the flywheels to build the crank, and since everyone and his dog had a lathe in their garden shed in those days, you machined up the crankcases and away you went. Can't think of the name of the company that sold the kit now, and you'd have to wonder how many they sold - 200cc two-stroke fours weren't exactly going to set the world on fire...

    But try these:

Start now and you'll have it ready for June next year...
