    How much notice?? Mustang Taken

    Hi,

How much notice is to be given before a car is towed away?

Yes.....I have had a car towed :****er: and am looking at the legalities into it.

When I bought my Cortina the car was on the road with no number plates and a sticker was put on the windscreen, saying I had 7 days to move the car. Today at 11.15 the mustang we were going to use for the Help For Heroes banger run was towed with no prior notice/warning . Surely they have to give sufficient warning. All advice welcome.

    Cheers,

    Stu.

I've been told, £100 to get the car + £160 for having no tax, F*****g ripping off, bastewards, I live in a cul-de-sac well away from any main roads with only 12 houses, there is no reason to come down the road unless prying, :****er:

    Cheers,

    Stu.

Ah, but you are committing a crime against the state. Depriveing the government of its' funding is far far more serious than great train robbery, murder, arson, or beating up a granny for her pension. All part of the great machine of power.

So why did you leave it on the road? Surely you must have thought, it's got no plates, or tax presumably? Unfortuately the law is the law, if you live in a cul-de-sac or not.

    Re: How much notice??

Many years ago I lived on a housing estate, the land behind the houses was private property belonging to the housing association. I had an old Saab I kept there, no problem it not being taxed on private land. A mate of mine came to see about buying it. We went for a spin round the block, then I left it on the road outside (about ten feet from the private land) while we went inside and he paid me. We came out five minutes later to see a couple of cop cars, a bunch of officials, and it just being loaded onto a piggyback transporter. Turns out the cops had chosen that very moment to do a blitz on the estate, turned up with several transporters, and were going round removing everything on the street that wasn't taxed. If I'd parked it back where it was I'd have been fine....

Stu, had the 7 days passed since the sticker was put on the screen?

If it is more than 7 days, then they will argue you had sufficient time to move it. If less, then you might have a case against them.

The road tax is back dated to the time the last disc expired, or when you became the keeper. You also normally have to pay the next 6 mths ahead as well.

If they have come down the Cul-de-sac I would suspect you may have a neighbour who has reported an untaxed / abandoned car. That is most likely the reason they stumbled upon it.

There was no warning no sticker on this one, my Cortina had a warning, but they just took the Mustang.
