    Dave is online now

    I smell a rat

I received this message a couple of days ago in response to my wanted ad for steel wheels:

Are you still looking for the 15 inch steel wheels?

The sender was Brook2, whose profile shows he joined on 30.12.2020 and has made no posts. The message conversation progressed:

    Me: Yeah, still looking

Brook2: Okay I have the set for sale

Me: Can you send me details and pictures?

Brook2: I was trying to send you the picture here but I don't get it you can send me your email to send you the picture

Me: Just message me the details on here then. Wheel sizes, are tyres included, price and where are you located is all I need to know

Brook2: style wheel 15 Inch Wheel 5 Inch Wide 5 on 4.75" (GM) wheel bolt pattern 2.840" center hole,I'm in MD my asking price is $475.00 with the shipping

I guess I'm still looking for wheels

You done well to 'smell a rat' there Dave. Its very easy to get drawn in when you want something ( I know too well , at my expense). Its awful that you can't trust people nowadays. I hate what the world is becoming.
If it's got tits or tyres, its gonna be trouble

I agree, the key seems to be asking questions and further detail, doing your homework is key nowadays as there is always a scumbag or opporunist trying to target the enthusiast and rip us off in some way or other.

Check out ScammerRevolts on YouTube. This guy is hysterical. He has a way of conning the scammers and then he's able to inert a file into their computer so he can watch them on their webcam as well as see and delete their scammer files. He even changed one scammers laptop password and locked the guy out of his own computer. I was in tears laughing. They get sooooo mad.

they prey on wanted adds, as the person looking is often so pleased to be offered the part they need, caution goes out of the window..

they usually sent pics of the item you want they found off the internet. if they are genuine, they won't mind sending a pic of the item in their possession with a can of soup, or a banana, or something else randomly requested in the pic too.....

you can do that if the pics are hosted on the internet, ie. if they send you a link to a pic, but not necessarily on pics sent direct on an email.....
