I really enjoyed reading this, all sounds so familiar! I'm sure we've all been there at some time.
    Happy ending too!

How'd it come to end up looking so sad? It'll be good to see it restored again.
Wanted! Back issues of Street Machine, American Car World/American Car and Classic American. Please PM.

the photo doesn't flatter it, it's very dusty and not as bad as it looks.

Aiming to get it running this weekend, then go through the mechanical bits before making a start on the bodywork

I found a bit of time to have a play with her this weekend and though how are can it be to coax a 2l Pinto into life?

Checked oil and coolant, plugs out and cleaned. One of the leads feels a bit iffy, so I'll fit a new set.

she turns over and the fuel pump clicks away like a good 'un, but no starting.

Pulled the king lead off at the dizzy to check for spark. I get one spark when the ignition is switched on and that's it. No further sparks when cranking (the car has a on-off key switch and a pull-to-start switch fitted at present.) Switching the ignition off and then back on gives the same result, just the one spark.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

you're not the lad who delivered it to me last week, then?

It's been up and down the country a fair few times! The V5C came back the other day, stating 11 previous owners. Funny to think I'm one of them

Had a customer with a triumph based kit car, ignition was only live on 2nd position of the switch and not on cranking, was a broken wire so you could crank it for ages and it would just spin over, yet as soon as you let go of the key it would fire up every time...! Is it points or electronic?

It's electronic, has two wires coming out of the side of the dizzy, and a Motorcraft ecu of some sort floating around under the dash :-)

I was planning on having another look at it this weekend, in an attempt to trace a few of the various wires that are in there and establish what they do/are supposed to do. The previous owner reported that it hadn't ran due to no spark, so it's not unexpected. I may even change the ignition switch for a conventional key switch while I'm at it.
