    Lava Lamp

    Anyone know what is in a lava lamp!, my betterhalf got one for 50p at a bootsale and is very upset it doesont work................ the light and heat from it work but the gel stuff that should go up down has seperated and just goes to the top HELP...........

    i believe its wax but i'm not 100% and i would say its not getting hot enough as it sound like its doing the same as my one after i changed the bulb ( the new bulbs don't get as hot )

    She just read that! now not happy even more! (she said that not me i just want an easy life who would have thought a 50p lamp could cause such a commotion) I just offerd her the 50p back but now think it was a bad idea

    put a 100w bulb in and leave it for an hour.

    yeah, when they've been sitting a while they take a good bit of heat to rekindle them. Mine got too hot a few years ago and the bubble turn very very small, and after that they don't quite gell the same again. I have a flat bit that floats on the top all the time now and breaks into tiny bubble now and again, then reforms as a flat top again. Other than that, 20 odd years on and stil on the original bulb. Proper job though, a Mathmos original stlye one. Still fascinates me with the shapes it makes before it's hot enough to busrt imto bubbles, yeah, I know, small minds are easily amused

    Aleady in the oven on regulo 5, will that be hot enough?
