Most car washes have a sign saying that they are not responsible for any damage to your vehicle, not sure if valeters are the same.

In this situation I would try to avoid the small claims court. You will get a £1 a week for life. With any luck your insurance company can sort it out for you. They have armies of people sitting around waiting for things like this to do and have far more experience at it.

sign or not they have have a legal responsibility to look after your property if you leave it in thier care. called a 'duty of care' applies to both people and property, and is covered by liability insurance.

on the subject of getting quotes, make sure you go to a really highly regarded paint shop, as some accident repair places can be awful. mate of mine had his rover 200 side swiped years ago, it was only 6 months old, when he came to trade it in at 1 year old, no rover garage would touch it coz of overspray and orange peel.

and you dont want that on a scooby, try the scuby forum for recommended paint shops

My main concern now would be once you have take your repair quote to him he then denies any responsibility or tells you to FO. This won't happen but you really need some written or failing that a witnessed verbal admission of liability.

Many years ago I managed to paint strip the valence on a brand new Ford Escort 2 van with a steam cleaner , straight from the factory, never been damaged ...until then .
