    New laws on engine changes

Does any one know of any mad new laws that have come out on 1st of jan? My mate just foned me and is having hassle cuz apparantly his vehicle has gotta be checked by men in posh clothes and get passed to be road worthy because the engine isnt the original. Whats that all about? They did tell him as from july there wont be any modifications aloud to any vehicle that isnt already registered that way. Any one know?

Ask Practical Classics magazine, they recently went to parliament to protest against these supposed new laws.......... all rumours.

Would be good if anybody bothered to read the information that ACE puts up about all these rumours.

Has your mate ACTUALLY got to do that or has he read all the misinformation in Practical Classics and Classic Car Weekly ...all of which where misinterpreations and misunderstanding of existing regs ...that they then awnet to Parliament to complain about to an MP who had no idea of what they were talking about rather than talk to DVLA themselves.

The facts are THESE regs have been in place 27 years

Chassis and Monocoque Modification - Association of Car Enthusiasts (ACE)

The other thing they complained about has already been in place almost 3 years

DVLA - Engine swap notification changes - Association of Car Enthusiasts (ACE)

    Hi All,

A member on here did have a similar problem a little while ago (at least 2010) but it did get sorted with the "correct paper work and receipts from the garage that supplied and fitted the engine".

    Cheers.

    Russ.

I just foned him and asked him what they actualy said. Apparantly Kapri is spot on. He fitted the 302 himself and bought the engine 2nd hand so got no paperwork for fitment or supply. It looks like if you cant supply these papers then they come and inspect the work carried out. So maybe the only advice is get receipts for engines and a letter from a garae for fitting. They dont trust us do they.
