The newer models of A3 on the same 1.9tdi will get around 65 reliably upto 110,000 miles. Its a great engine, shame they dont make it anymore (I think Skoda still use it in the "Superb" Greenline model").

    That is an epic Passat

You must drive like a nancy boy

Peugeot 405 Est I had before my current 406 had done over 350,000 when I traded it in and it still drove pretty nice , a little bit fumey in heavy traffic but considering the mileage and it was a 1900cc petrol engine .
My 406 Est has done 280,000 and hasn't cost me a penny apart from routine servicing and replacing the normal wear'n'tear bit's you'd expect to , it's even still on it's original clutch which show no signs of slipping . When I first got it I'd have to spend £40 to fill it up from empty , now it costs almost £90 for the same amount of fuel !!

    Hi hot rod trimmer,

So you do about 16k a year / 300 miles per week, quite a lot but not ridiculous amounts.

    Cheers.

    Russ.

My 93 B4 passat 1.9 tdi has done 248000 miles, cost £120 from a dealership that were going to scrap it, does 62-63mpg, and speed doesn't seem to make any difference to the mpg, although I hardly ever exceed 80mph. was on 234000 when I bought it, put £50 worth of discs and pads on it and serviced it myself just after I got it, always starts first time, doesn't smoke and has never let me down, although Ive just had a slight wheel bearing noise make itself known in the last few weeks. but all in all I'm amazed with it, will be off to swapmeet in it, 140 mile at 80 all the way. Thats probably put the kiss of death on the journey now I'm banging on about how good it is!

We had a C plate Scorpio which passed the 250k mark, sold it to a mate maybe 7 or 8 years ago, he transplanted the engine into a Granada Mk2 estates and the car is still running round. Keep meaning to catch it to see how many miles he's notched up

My old MAN (s a dustman!) has done 528,000 so far so it's been to the moon and back and it's going again (I think !) and like Chris's passat it's now got air suspension (I'm never doing that to another lorry !)
