    We've had much discussion on this at work, and the general concensus was that electric with diesel backup was the way forward. You need silent movement to get around with no detection, but need emergency power in the case of not being able to charge. As mentioned earlier, an older diesel motor will run on basically anything if needs be so fuel will be more readily available. You'll need enough space to carry your solar array to charge it each day and a secure place to sleep so a van based vehicle would be best.

    My father in laws Russian Zil 131, took the coms body off and stuck it on a trailer and it's fully kitted out to live in (complete with bed, Chesterfield sofa, toilet, sink etc, we put a crane on the back just for fun and he put a cummins 6bt up front that will run for 100 life times with no problems, simple and easy to fix., oh and the 6 wheel drive is brilliant!
