2 bits of flat bar on a piece of wood set 1/2 apart (on top of the bench away from the dogs) 1 decent welding set on max power and the earth on one flat bar and electrode on the other and scatter all kinds of food around the flat bars (chocolate nutella is one of their favourites) the amps kill them humanely and instantly and the set up just lies in wait (they usually jerk and land a good distance from the flat bars)
Used this method for years in fabshops and my own place.

I can rent you my ****. I have a huge tub full of it. Seriously. I've been weeing in a container (outside) for months as I heard human urine keeps moles away but didn't know it had the same effect on rats. I have rats here mainly because my property backs onto a brook. Some good advice from others and I'll try some of the things because I've not heard of them before. I don't like killing any living thing but you do have to make an exeption with rats. Just a thought; the council used to provide a service whereby they'd come to your property and put poision down. Mine isn't a council house but they still came and sorted it for me but I am going back a few years. Worth a call maybe?

My brother in law years ago got Weil's disease from stepping on an infected nail whilst fishing. He got really bad and ended up in hospital.

    Corrected spelling of 'Weil's'

Just spotted this over on the HAMB site. Think they put antifrreze in the bucket though you would to be careful if you have other animals around.

I had then in a storage shed once, put an empty water butt in there with a little dog food in the bottom. Mr rat gets in (off a nearby box i think) but can't get out and the plastic is too hard to chew. Got one or two every day for a few days until they were all gone. I used to knock the butt over outside and let my terriers kill them but you could also drown/poison while they were trapped.
