Just revisited the second hand replacement carb as car seemed rich.
I did strip it and clean that dried up goop from modern petrol and must of thought run with the set up.
Anyhoo, it's the Edelbrock 800 and it must have been on a big block as the rods were standard and jets way larger.
The comprehensive tune up chart tells me it was 2 stages rich on the main jets and ditto the secondaries.
Sure Holley make better race carbs but swapping stuff around on an Edelb is so simple - lift the lid, that's it

Finally did something I've been putting off for a while.
I live in a rural farming area and we have zoning which restricts what you can do with your property. The whole area is zoned agricultural/residential, meaning you can farm the land or live in your house on the land, nothing else.
Back in 2015 somebody who lives about 500 yards from my place decided to ignore the zoning and start a trucking company. Every morning starting at 5 am we were getting a procession of 15 or more semi trucks waking us up 7 days a week 365 days a year.
I sent an objection to the zoning department, so they sent him a letter telling him to stop. He didn't, but instead asked for the zoning to be changed. Zoning said no, he just carried on ignoring them and waking me up every day.
So for the past 5 years I have been going to monthly planning and zoning meetings to try and get them to take whatever legal action is needed to stop him. But so far no luck.
Yesterday I went to the zoning department and gave them their copy of my petition for a writ of Mandamus. They didn't seem that bothered until they realized that as this issue involves the District Attorney it would not go to one of the local friendly judges, but instead goes before the New Mexico Supreme Court. They then get to explain to a panel of judges why they are not doing their job.
The look on their faces; absolutely priceless.
Funny thing, for the first time in 5 years there were no trucks this morning

here's where i am so far, no white walls as strangely an american 26 x 2.125 tyre isn't 26" like our's are? whoodathunkit? so back on with the black walls it was. next i cleaned the bearing races for the headstock and the pedal spindle of years of hard old grease and repacked them with fresh grease and put all the balls back in place. wheels in and it's a roller so i dropped the 'zoom' bmx stem and handlebars into the headstock and the seat and stem at the back and it's a bike again. tomorrow i'll get the brakes and gears reconnected/fitted with the new matching red cables and it's nearly there. i may keep an eye out for bars with more rise as the seating position is a bit more bobber than easy rider but we'll see how it rides.
    neil.

Try to find a pair of proper old Cowhorn handlebars like most of us probably had when we were kids...

Along with the smashed knuckles where we didnt fit through most gaps
Lifes to short to worry about tossers

It's ok to not be ok

yep i always had them, they came in 2 sizes and i always went bigger. i've got a pair and although they're wider by a couple of inches each side than what's on there now the 'rise' is about the same. the only reason i didn't fit them is the centre where they clamp is 1" and i need to machine the stem clamp out from the 'normal' 7/8" that it is now. or i may make a 'u' shaped riser that'll clamp into the 7/8" stem and weld the bigger bars to it.
    neil.

Bike looks great! Is that Sturmey Archer gears you're going to have?

I've a pair of the narrower cowhorns with the 1" section in the middle that I've put on an old mountain bike. There must have been a time in bicycle evolution where all the engineering changed: the way the brakes operate and are attached; the stem and so on. My later mountain bike has no interchangeable bits with my earlier bike, other than maybe the derailleurs and all fastenings are allen bolts, rather than nuts and bolts. Also tyres seem to have got wider 26 x 1.75 on old bike, 2.10 x 26 on later one.
