I was in the same boat after someone decided to break the lock of the dragster trailer on the drive. I spoke to a lad at work who's a bit techy! I got off ebay a Fluoreon kit which consists of a 4 channel DVR which came with two cameras. The cameras are wired but in my case where I wanted to put them there is plenty of wire with them. The DVR can connect to your home network and there is an app to connect to it using your phone. You can set up various modes of alarm based on sensitivity, time limits, any number of the cameras so for example put one on the front path so you have images of any potential tricksters knocking ont he front door but dont get an email everytime the postman walks up the path! You can also connect a hard drive to record footage. Having a seperate DVR gives you the flexibility of being able to record, and to add more cameras if needs be. Maybe a bit OTT in some cases but it was £60. You just cant beat that.

My sister recently bought one of these
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7MzCDMQHv8
She opened the app to show me the quality of the video at her home, on her phone, panning around the room, confusing her cat by talking to him etc.
Looked farily reaosnable to my eyes, and I thought the speaker facility was impressive where you could shout at any potential intruder and let them know they're being watched.

Theres one of those police / action type programmes over here which regularly looks at an alarm company who offer video monitoring. They also have speaker facility, and I've never seen anyone not take to their heels when yelled at. !

    I have a FOSCAM.

brilliant piece of kit, really cheap, wireless and with the phone app I can see the cam from anywhere in the world and control it. doesnt have a recording feature but has motion senser, also has night more infrared.
I've just moved it from my garage to upstairs looking over the drive and will get a second camera for the garage.

have had mine for about 4 years now and no problems.
