    100e Escort Gasser Build

Right then, its been a busy couple of weeks...

After speaking to my Stepdad (Pete of Lite Welding Ltd) it was decided it was time to build a car 'for me' rather than buying cars that were done / nearly done and then finishing/changing them to how i wanted them to be.

The plan was set I would find the body / running gear for what i wanted and Pete would then get it to the rolling stage with all the major fabrication work etc done ready for me to finish plumbing it and wiring it etc.

    So here goes...

After lots of looking at this for inspiration:

    I found this:

Then decided to spend a day in Leicester buying this, to steal the running gear:

The plan is to get all the major components together, then get it down the workshop asap for mocking up and to start work.

So far I have the body, chassis, rear axle, engine and box, and front suspension (Just need to get them stripped out )

Still looking for a set of both front and rear slot mags - Rears need to be 7-8" wide can be any stud pattern as I will need to get a set of half shafts made up.Fronts need to be as thin as possible and preferably 4 stud ford 108mm, what you guys got?

The car already has its name: 'Maggie's Gold', thought of by my mother of all people. The reasoning behind the nameis a personal one, my Gran passed away last year and her name was Margerat hence the 'Maggie' and the 'Gold' is down to the fact some of the money that was left to me is being invested in the car (though not according to my gramp :whistle.)

How things look so far, everything tucked away in the garage:

More to follow as parts are collected /stripped etc and the buiulding starts, hope you guys enjoy and can help out with all the questions 'I WILL' be asking.

    Cheers, Matt

    Matt,

Spoke to Wayne today about your axle, it'll be an 8", he can narrow it for you but he'll have to make up a load of tooling to do so.
Also been speaking to Pete about the proposed front end, still chewing a few things over about the proposed set up, I'll keep thinking about it and let you know.

Cheers Jeff, Ill speak to Pete and Wayne about narrowing the axle! Just gotta get some Nice Slots sorted next.

Got a quote back off Hausers for new halfshafts, worked out about £450ish i think for the pair with bearings and studs, not too bad.

Thanks for helping with the front end setup be ace if it turns out to work, being able to have the look we want but without the expense of a whole new front end. Just had a look and the Mustang does have Mcpherson Struts.

Hi Lee, All im using from the car is the axle/rear suspension, box, engine, radiator, pedal box and any bits i can use from the front suspension. The rest will be up for grabs, once its been stripped the interior is absolutly superb was going to put it up on the mustang forums.

Ill have a look at the pics cheers Woody and Derick! The car is going to be my daily and as such there will have to be compromises made, We have some cool ideas for getting round the front end set up! Which will be revealed as the build progresses (As long as it works )

And sorry Duncan, a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do!
