This will be the 6th car I've built on a trailer, set em up level and they make a perfect platform, my old one was a flatbed with wheels under that fitted in the garage, this one doesn't but it's longer.

Ears with U-bolt mounting holes cut off front axle, and axle up on top of springs instead of underneath, lowers the car bout 4"

Springs moved outside the rails, U-bolt position looks about right so I'm on the right track.

    DSCF1133 (1).jpg

Hard to see but it looks like the original had no X members that would hold the chassis square, I reckon the solid mounted engine did that job. I think it must have flexed a bit.

This can't be an exact replica as the original used a '26 chassis that's 4" shorter and with straight top and bottom to the rails.

So I thought I'd fit X members just cause it made sense to hold it square.

A lot to cut out of the rear one.

    DSCF1150.jpg

Had to square up the taper.

    Done.

    Excellent!
I'd love to build one of those, and I may do after my current project is finished.

will you have enough room between the axle and chassis for suspension travel once all the weight is on it?

Front spreader tube started by inserting three bits of lathe cut LR track rod, can't work out if this was properly engineered originally.

Rear X member in place, once it was bolted in the rails were held nicely parallel and square.

    DSCF1161.jpg

Moved the front X member back by one bottom bolt hole, which kept it square, to clear the axle and set the bits up for welding.

Miserable wind and spotty rain, lots of wind shielding needed for MIG gas, should be doing this by sunny Datona beach by rights!
