1957 Fairlane project
I've been searching for a new car for a while now, first time American car despite being into them for 25 years. After years of excuses I've realised I need to just get on and do it.
I bought this from France in the end, seems it was built in Holland and lived in central France only covering 80k kms until the 80s. It was then barn stored until a few years ago when the guy I bought it from got it. He never started the build, only stripped it down. It's coming to the UK on Sunday, I'm going to see it at my friend's workshop next week.
First target is running and driving, I'd like 300hp at some point.
Aerostar coils, new dampers, power disc conversion & uprated ARBs should see it cope with British roads and be closer to the ground.
Body wise, it's in great shape. Both sills have some crushing and rust at the rear, suspect they were jacked under at some point. Both front wings need a repair at the bottom, that's about it. All chrome/stainless is equally as good. It'll need paint, I'm just mulling whether to keep the 2-tone, split lines etc. I'm thinking a sage green/emerald green combo.
The interior is in good shape, rear seat should be fine with a clean, front needs a repair to the vinyl and there's a small tear in the headliner at the back. The dash pad had rotted out, so will be painted instead.
I'd like to go chrome reverse rims with white bands, but struggling to find any over here.
Sorry for the photos, they are mostly close up to show the lack of rust. I'll try and grab some better overall ones when I see it next.
Can't wait to get it back!
Apologies for slightly rambling post, it's a copy of one on the HAMB with some pics now the car's in the UK and reassembled, waiting on the work to begin)
