    1959 Ford Galaxie

    Here we go again.....

1959 Ford Galaxie 500, came out of Kansas and was shipped to UK for me, and I collected her today. Sorry for the poor pics, they came off my phone. Huge thanks to Model T Haven and Neil Tuckett at Tuckett Brothers for arrangeing the shipping on my behalf.

So far I have identified 3 flat tyres, a stuck Y-block and both sill are rusted right out (all of which I knew about when buying it).

got to love those tail lights

anyone got any 15" steels that would fit it? Standard wheels are 14" and look tiny on it!
A bullet might have your name on it, hand grenades are addressed "to whom it may concern......."

You can never have too much red wine, too many books or too much ammunition.

    That'll do!

Best option for wheels is to get some 15" steel "smoothies". I'm having to go this route because 14" wheels won't fit the disc conversion on my Ranchero. I'm going with the (cheaper) painted type and hubcaps and white-band tyres. The rims are about £60 each new from Northants Tyres.

What's the plan? Are you rebuilding the Y-block or dropping in a small block? I'll drop my cement mixer round when you do the sills.

......and watch the off-set/back spacing of any new wheels, 7 x 15 is the biggest I can get under the back of mine without having to resort to special-order wheels or narrowing the axle.

Thanks all, smart isn't she? Had a bonus from work, and fancied some chrome and fins for a change.
Good shout on the smoothies Gary, i'll reserach them. and yes to the cement mixer, just keep it quiet, I think we're onto a cheap fix there and I don't want everyone compying us!
Plans are to do not much, really. One-off body style (thy only made them for one year) means factory custom. Maybe shave the door handles and one or two other small bits of trim, but other than than, lower her and drive her.
Ref the engine, she has the feel of a one owner car (when I get some pics of th interior you'll see why), so If I can unstick the Y-block and fire it up, job's a good 'un. I don't want a tarmac terror, just a cruiser.

edited to add, Gary. pre-'56 ford steels are 15" and fit, apparently. Or did you knopw that? Of course, finding a set in a Wiltshire scrapyard is going to be uber-simple, isn't it.......

Body-wise, if it were mine I'd repair any rot & carry out localised resprays where needed (if possible) matching the original colour. A good compound & polish over the rest then lower it over painted steel rims with chrome hubcaps. Or flake the roof & paint the wheels to match. Or leave the body as-is & drop it over a set of 17" Torque Thrust II's. Or spend a fortune on it & sell it for a loss, if you go this route I'll give you some tips, I'm a master at it!!!!!!!!!
