    '46 Chevrolet coupe

I've always liked these (a bit of an XXL moggy minor with a built in roof chop) so when this came up on ebuy, and was just down the road (a relative term) I thought I'd have a go.
Some of you might recognise the car (or the remains of) apparently it was Chelmsford based, but was written off; don't have any details about that, but it was a hard hit, badly bending the chassis, I do wonder though if the damage to the shell was caused in the crash or else done in the salvage yard with a fork lift.

First task was to remove the knackered Jag column and pedal box as the car is going to be (those of nervous disposition look away now) RHD!

second was to remove the caravan axle tack welded underneath by a previous owner, as apart fro not being able to open the doors, was right in the way of the inner sill damage.

Removed the side pods today, I had hoped that just removing the bolts would be enough, but someone has welded them on....... tried to cut through the weld with a hacksaw blade, but there was too much filler to find the join; hadn't noticed that they had been extended by about 6", and that the pods had been welded to the door, and then the little extension pieces welded on after.

Hopefully the axle was just to move it about, although you never can be 100% sure.....

I bashed a few more dents out, and ground the remains of the door pods off today; it has to be said there is a sh!t load of filler in this car!

I f anyone has a piccy of the car in it's prime that they are willing to share, that would be great.

Nice project, well done for being brave, what plans do you have for chassis, suspension, engine etc?
I may live in East London, I may have a number plate that reads "Chopt", but I do NOT use 6" wheel spacers!

Hi guys, I'm aiming for a nostalgic style, it didn't come with any front wings/fenders, (but the hood is with it) I'm going to use the '41 style, (found a supplier of fibreglass ones in the states although he wont ship to the UK) I want to use a 265cu engine, (if I can find one) looks as though I'll be making a chassis, as there has been quite a few alterations underneath, and it appears to have been channelled about 4", so although I know the wheel base, I don't have an exact dimension for chassis length....

I have been doing a bit over the last week but boring stuff, but includes collecting the hood, removing the dents (shown in previous photo's) and having a bit of a measure up for the chassis; from today, I have a set of wheels (that almost fit) and I now know the with of the back axle needs to be 56", I wonder if there is anything out there that will fit without surgery?

As for the nostalgic aspect to the car, probably not what most people would associate with the term, but you know what they say; "nostalgia,it ain't what it used to be"

With regards to the last photo, I've heard it said that the rake is important, so I've included a picture of it!
