The mod for racing MGBs used to be to to use a rad out of an early VW Polo (separate header tank). Looked similar to Robert's Metro ones. Very light, being aluminium and plastic in construction. I did this for years on a road car with a Maestro pusher electric fan until the rad eventually failed.

Aftermarket replacement rads use a different core and are not as effective. Early Polo used a round rube with a rifled insert that made the water spin all through the core thus ensuring mech more convection of heat compared to a standard tube rad.
