CoolBedford CF V8 Custom Van !!.

    Hi all,

Anyone who has read my "Hello" Post, will know that I am having a 1985, V8 Powered Bedford CF Custom Van built at present, so hopefully, the attached link will go directly to some Piccies and Info at the "Retro Power" Website. The Van is having a R/Rover P38 4.6 EFi V8 Lump fitted, which has been recently Rebuilt, and has a Fast road Cam, as well as a Chipped, Socketed and Re-Mapped ECU, which along with other things like having the Cat`s and Lambda`s Removed, as well as other stuff like the Air-Con Compressor etc, etc, should hopefully deliver around 300 bhp, and Loads of Torque !!. It will also have a RWD 4HP22 Autobox from a V8 Cop Riot Van fitted, which is a 4 speed, as opposed to the usual B/Warner and GM 180 3 Speed Autobox, and has a Final Drive Ratio of 0.73:1, as opposed to the 1:00 Ratio of the 3 Speed. It also has a Vauxhall Cresta/Ventora 3.46:1 Diff, so all in all should prove VERY lively !!. According to my Calculations, and with a Rolling Diameter of 29" on the Rear Tyres, it should give a Top End of around 188 MPH @ 5,500 RPM !!!!. I reckon thats more than enough for an "Old CF Van" !!. It will be Re-Painted in "Jaguar Morocco Red", which is a very Deep Metallic Red, and should look Awesome when finished !. Anyway, here is the Link, which is Updated with further Pics & Info on a regular basis. If anyone wants any further Info give me a shout.

    Dave.

By the Way, Callum & Nat @ "Retro Power" are Excellent, and you will be able to see other examples of their Work on the Site. I cant recommend them highly enough, and after the First 30 Hours Work, their 2010 flat rate for New Customers Including VAT etc, is only £20.00 P/Hour !!.

It`s looking great, a really well chosen paint colour. You must have been chuffed to bits when you saw it for the first time after it was painted. What have you in mind for the interior?

    Hi Paddy,

The Colour was a joint decision between Retro Power who are building the Van, and myself. I was umming and arring between Black again, "Deep Purple" and a couple of other things, when Cal from R/Power suggested this colour, (Jaguar Morocco Red), as he had Sprayed it before, and also owned a Jag painted this colour, so he was well familiar with it, and new how nice it looked. And yes, I am chuffed to bits with it, and very glad that I went with it. As regards the Interior, here is a quote, again from Cal @ R/Power, which sort of explains it all. Let me know what you think ; -

    Interior plans..... Right, deep breath!

    Starting from the front:

Polished stainless fabricated engine cover, possibly with perspex viewing window (the engine will be lit by blue LED's in the 'tunnel' area we fabricated into the bulkhead).

Custom dash, in 3mm Ally, painted the same colour as the van, with lettering for the new gauges engraved back through to the bare metal

All new gauges, including digital speedo/rev counter, and mirror-fronted blue iluminated aux gauges

Custom made remote shifter on dash with ally T-handle and blue LED gear indicator

    Black leather seats.

Custom made door cards, trimmed in Black leather/Alcantara (as per the rest of the interior) with Chrome window winders

    Remote door poppers

In the back there will be a large bed (the metal frame for which has already been fabricated and fitted). The front section of this will fold up into a bench seat.

Small stainless steel sink (allowing camper van insurance, and doubling as a 'self filling' bowl for Dave's dog!!)

The rear 'under-bed' cavity is a luggage area accessed via the rear hatch. The front 2ft of the cavity will be home to audio gear - 2x15" subs in sealed enclosures, and a large amp & power cap behind a perspex window with Blue LED illumination.

    Alpine H/U up front with 2x 6.5" components and 2x 6X9's.

    Interior lighting to be decided.

It all sounds good to me !!.

    Dave.

Yea, it all sounds good to me too!L.E.D`s are what vanning never had the first time round, so it stands to reason you need to use plenty of them this time.Where did the new headlight set up come from.I like them and would like to look into fitting them in my Bronco.Buy the way I think the rear end view of the van looks particularly slick,it looked quite good before but in that colour it`s just gorgeous.

    Hi again Paddy,

Yes, I like the Enclosed Smooth look of the Back End too, and still plenty of Storage Room, via the Pull Down "Hinged Hatch", which will be undernerath the Bed Area inside the van. These are the Headlights ; - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STREETFIGHTER-...item3a42869b59

Basically you buy 4 of these, and put 2 each side, stacked one above the other. (You will also need to Modify the Existing H/Light Backing Panels). You then have 4 x 55 Watt Bulbs Each Side. I am then having the Bottom Bulb of the Lower Headlight on each side wired to the Indicators, so you will then have 3 x Headlight Bulbs, and 1 x Flashing Indicator Bulb Per Side !. obviously the "Glass" in the Indicator Unit will also be Tinted Orange.

    Cheers,

    Dave.
