    bit of this and a bit of that

    so the 32 is tucked away in the back of the garage awaiting funds. that's where these 2 come in.
    i like a classic ford and i like 'older' bikes. these are both right up my street then. the bike's getting done first as it needs less doing. it's a jap import yamaha srx 400, we got the full fat 600 here in blighty but a few of these 400's have made it here too. it's a sort of jap interpretation of a cafe racer for the 80's. like the honda xbr500 but with less gubbins. they're kickstart only on these early ones (it's a 1986) and no main stand either.
    anyway i've had a look over it for the mot and fitted a new set of indicators already, one was busted and the rest were an assorted 'set' with not a matching one among them. while the headlight was out i reconnected the sidelight that had come apart too. once it's tested the reg will be sold, it's A8 DUM. i've been quoted £500 for that and it'll go back on a 'C' plate so that's fine. i need to see if the battery will charge and hold said charge and get the test booked.
    here's some pics of the bike.





    the escort is a typical been laid up for years old ford. the engine ran fine after the carb was freed off, the points gapped and cleaned, some fresh petrol and a new battery. even the clutch wasn't stuck and the gears all selected and worked too. so the engine and box got listed on evilbay and young ifan millar off here bought those for his better half's new car he's doing for her. so it sit's waiting for the bike to get out of the way so it can get fully stripped in the garage. i've been buying parts for it while it waits. i have a good 2.0 pinto from the eagle kitcar i'm selling on here, a type 9 5 speed box, a 6 dial dash and top, a set of very clean deep dish 7x13 revolites with good 185 60 13's on, a pair of late capri front struts and a pair of mexico wings to cut the arches from and weld to my stock wings. i'm not mad, one is rotten down the back edge and the other is a new one that's been fitted and crudely removed and bent. but my car has at some point had new stock wings that fit nice with good gaps so i'll swap the flared mexico arches onto them. oh and i just bought today a new bonnet cable and a secondhand bonnet release lever as mine's broken.
    i'll get some pics of the escort in daylight so you can see the patina that's staying.

    Nice Yammy Neil ! ( I was 14 when that was new. eek ! ) I know a few people who would suit that number plate . I 8 Dum (I be... ) would be perfect though ....

    Not so much a thread, I thought I'd take a leaf out of grizz' book and just post what I'm up to. I jump about so often from one thing to the next I thought one thread fits all. I may even post stuff when I work on the garage itself.
    Those yamaha and Honda big singles have always floated my boat, I've had a few ft500's and a couple of the xbr500's too. I love the torque.
    As for the escort it's an estate and I love estate cars. They're just so practical, I mean look at the Anglia estate I built seriously these old escorts make stupid money these days and if I do it all myself I can make a good amount towards my 32 gasser budget.
    The bike, once the plate is sold I'd like to keep but you know what I'm like........

    so today i drained the stale fuel out of the bike and put a gallon of super unleaded in to spice up the dregs . also pulled the battery to charge it up, not sure if it's any good, we'll see tomorrow once it's sat 24hrs. if not as there's no leccy start it's not expensive for a new on at under a score (that's £20 for the children out there ). oh, i booked the mot too, not this saturday but the next .
    on the escort the new bonnet release cable arrived, just waiting for the s/h lever and i'll be able to open the bonnet without mole grips the courier collecting the capri struts for me (dpd) didn't even bother to knock the guy's door, they just slipped a 'while you were out' bla bla note through the door the wan*ers. got to get them to go again but send a driver with a brain we'll see how that goes

    here's a taster of the escort, it's taken 47 years to look this good. i'm planning to mop the 'paintwork' with the minimum of repairs sympathetically blown in to match.
