exhaust all done now, i removed the 'cherry bomb' type middle box and had to turn the rear oval box 90 degrees. it's all much tighter to the floor for ground and axle clearance. plus with the one box at the back it's got the proper old ford rasp to it now. next i made up a replacement throttle cable, secured the aftermarket padded dash top and fitted the revcounter on top. last job today was to fit the under dash parcel shelf. just the set of 3 gauges to fit next weekend now unless they arrive sooner.
    neil.

so the latest purchase for the valiant is a tunnel ram...... for a 440. yes my engine is a 383 but when did you last see a 383 tunnel ram for sale? why a tunnel ram? i can easily fit 2 impco 425 gas mixers on top, each will support up to 325hp so i'm good for future tuning (stroker, heads, cam etc) while still being comparably cheap to run.
anyway the plan is to 'narrow' the 440 tunnel ram by either cutting a section out of the middle of the base or sectioning both sides through the runners. either way it's only metal so it's doable. i'll be collecting it near the end of may (i'm in the area then) as i'm not in a rush for it and i'm too tight to pay postage.
    neil.

another of this weeks projects was 'frankenpipes'.
an elderly gent (in his 70's) came into work for some exhaust clamps. the guy on the counter asked me if i could help him with his exhaust down pipes.
turns out he's got a nissan 300zx that he's fitting an ls1 into. apparently there is a kit for this swap in the states, mounts, headers and adapter plate to bolt the ls to the nissan 5 speed box, who knew? i went to his palce after work to look at what he wanted doing. basically headers to the exhaust system which is already 2 1/2" dual stainless. he cut lots of bends and straight sections and sleeved and clamped it all together (17 clamps in total!).
so he dropped them in today and this evening after about 1 1/2 hours of welding here we are, frankenpipes!
the car has a full tupperware kit and sits low so to be fair you can't see them once on the car.
i'll smooth the welds down tomorrow and he can refit them this weekend.

    Thumbs up

    Frankenpipes

Fair play to the dude for cracking on though and does now have a template to have them bent proper if he ever needs to

    Is that stainless mig weld!?

Love the way despite the effort with the bends that a section still has to be flattened

40 years ago he would've been building a 'special'. When I went to look at the job he was watching sin city motors on tv, nothing changes. I hope I'm as active at his age for sure.

the set of 3 gauges arrived for the anglia today so i set to work wiring and fitting them. the chrome bezels and bracket suit the retro look of the car i think. second pic shows them working, good oil pressure
