So I've cut out the original roof frame and supports ready to weld-in the Falcon bonnet.
I need to make new roof supports.
I started with lengths of 1/2" aluminium tube which were bent to the correct roof contours (around an old wheel!)
Welded 80mm apart with 2mm mount brackets.

This will be bolted to brackets welded between the 'B' pillars and the rear window frames.
But it's only a start. If the roof support ends up looking like the picture in my head it will blow you away!

    Roof support continued:
Had to make a tool to dimple the panels, but they've come out OK..

Brackets to mount the 4 sides. Alloy brackets for the support and steel brackets with captive nuts to be welded to the bodyshell:

Also got a gift from a friend this week:

That's enough 3" stainless-steel tube and bends to make the entire twin-system.
    Thanks Matthew!

I cut out small sections of the 'B' pillars to allow the roof support brackets to be welded in flush:

These will be tidied up as necessary when the body comes off. For now they are solid enough to bolt the cross-ways support in place and measure for the front tubes:

The front support bracket hasn't been welded in place yet, just in case there is any 'drift' in the support when it's welded.....

Also did a bit more 'glassing to the front end. Cut out the hole under the scoop and smoothed the edges, then added a few layers of 'glass around the join, and to cover any exposed holes:

It's now more hole than bonnet!

On the outside I built up the back-end of the scoop so that I can follow the bodyline over it:

And cut-out the sides. These had been patched and cut so many times that I figure it will be easier to make new sides than to spend hours trying to get the existing ones flat:

    More soon!

    That lot looks great !
Caution !! If you keep adding to the scoop ( using mashed potato and garden planters etc etc) , & it starts looking like sugarloaf Mountain........... /i\ ...
you've probably been probed by aliens ! (close encounters ... )
