Thanks. It means a lot to me that people appreciate what I'm trying to do.
To me, metal is metal. It makes no difference whether it's cut from a fresh sheet or a washing machine body. Once it's cleaned, bent, cut, welded, painted no-one will ever know. (except for the 68,000 views on here and similar amount on HAMB and facebook.....).
I'm also saving the planet () and saving money. Total spend on the project so far is around $4,000

    Two-Hat

    More upcycling!
As the new twin-carb manifold is now in place, it seemed important to make a twin-carb pressure hat. Stick with me......
Back in the build you may recall me making the distributor base from a section of the neck of an expired fire extinguisher bottle.
Cue the remainder of the bottle, now cut and slit:

Then cleaned. It's 3mm extruded aluminium and plenty tough enough for the weedy poundage my angry snails will poke at it:

Then found a piece of 3mm alloy (it's a chequer-plate offcut, but beggars can't be choosers!). Cut & shaped it for two 5" carbs.

Stretched and shaped the 'bottle' a bit and applied some electric glue:

Then more shaping and more glue

Then added the feed pipes. Unfortunately I have made a pleasant 'torpedo' shape into something that looks like a scared peanut......

    More to come.

After a small mod to the scuttle (!) it looks like it'll fit OK

And happy to report no clearance issues

Still a bit to do. I've got to sort out where to put the BOV's and the mounting tabs.

So the angry peanut has now got a head! These will be the same colour eventually.

Back to the front end bodywork. Having unpinned the reshaped wheelarches from each other it's about time they got put back where they belong.
These are attached with lengths of scrap sign-board. The sign-board allows a slight bend but will not bend or kink like alloy plate might.

Once the arch is screwed in place, the infills can be marked and cut

    And then screwed into place

The next exciting episode should see them glued in place...
