    More front end. Mostly re-laminated.
not pretty (yet) but you get the idea.

I think the shape looks pretty good. Only a few hundred hours of rubbing and shaping it'll be mint!

This just goes to show that there are some really nice people out there. All of these components (except the $10 springs!) came my way free of charge via members of the Old School NZ forum. Though they probably will never read this, thank you!

So. Start with a pair of Monroe Gas-Matic shock absorbers for Jaguar. I was actually given a set of 4 in remarkably good nick so I'll have two spares.

Strip down. Throw away spring. Look at lovely free adjustable spring platforms

Cut off top spring platform and all but 20mm of the top dust sleeve, cut down adjuster thread and couterbore 20mm:

Press-fit adjuster sleeve to top of shock. I'll add a few welds but TBH I don't think they're necessary.

Modify lower spring platform by basically inverting the plate leaving just enough to cover the retainer collets:

Throw a spring on and we're nearly finished.

I'll need to make a couple of sleeves up to keep the spring in place, then paint them shiny colours

    Rear shock absorbers all finished!
The first parts to receive a finish coat of paint in the chosen colours for the suspension and steering - Ford Light Blue (predictably!) and semi-satin black.

And you all thought it was going to be a rat-rod!

    More sexy stuff.
This is the oil cooler mount, exquisitely made (!) from 1/2" aluminium tube.
It mounts to the top of the oil cooler and (will have) tags welded to the chassis.

The bottom bosses are tapped M6 so we won't have any ugly nuts about the place!

Dual filter mount fits like so:

It sits behind the oil cooler (which is at the front-most point of the chassis) and in front of the radiator.

    And it weighs F-all!

    What is it?
The latest project on the car called for a compound-curved panel.
Enter one exhaust bend. This has been sitting around for years so I thought it would be a good candidate:

    Slit it in half:

    And flatten the inner radius:

Then using the latest CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) program, cut the two pieces into funky shapes:

Then cut smaller funky shapes and weld them together:

Then weld the smaller welded together funky shapes to the larger funky shapes and smooth the welds:

Then get bored with funky steel shapes and go and punch a few holes into a piece of folded 2mm aluminium:

Then don't tell anybody what it's going to be until it's finished!
