You know when you spend hours making something, then look at it and think that it looks like it should have been easier than it was?
Case in point these two things:

First off I made a tool to make them, then spent about an hour each cutting, beating & welding them into shape.
The good news is they've turned out exactly as I wanted, but thats a few hours of my life I won't get back.

Anyhoo, they are to cover these cut-outs in the door cards where the door release handle pivots poke through:

    And fit something like this:

They will be shaped into the window surrounds better when they're final fitted, but you get the idea:

Where the throttle linkage goes through the bulkhead I wanted to put in a boot/seal. Rummaging around in the 'box of stuff' I found this which I suspect was originally around the gear linkage:

Now I could have just punched a 35mm hole through the bulkhead and stuffed the boot into it, but why do a job in 10 minutes that you can make last an hour?
I pressed this (using an old bearing) into a piece of scrap aluminium:

The raised portion allows the wide rubber flange to sit flat against the bulkhead. It will be attached by a ring of rivets and will perfectly match the engine loom bulkhead fitting.

The dashboard has now grown an ashtray

    No, not really.
It's a cover for the boost control module. I thought it would be prudent to add some kind of control for turbo boost, so it will live behind the cover like this:

And just to make it look more period I welded a setscrew to an old ballbearing:

The front is made from 2mm aluminium with a small section of aluminium piano-hinge welded to it. At the moment it's held in place by a couple of rivets, but will end up with screws on the final fit. The internal structure is made from a panel cut from the old Nissan bonnet that still keeps giving!

    Return of the angry peanut

This is the pressure hat from the car. Lovely piece of kit which has taken hours (if not days) to fabricate.
Unfortunately though it needs some modification. The width of the bottom tubes is wider than the engine bars which means to remove it you have to take of the rad top mount and the engine bar cross-brace. Not ideal considering the carbs are undoubtedly going to need fettling/tuning throughout the life of the car.
The solution is to make one of the tubes removable. It would be easy to cut a tube and just put in a silicone joiner, but that would look naff.
A Wiggins clamp would be the perfect answer, but unless my bank balance improves substantially that will be out of the question for....well ever!
Rummaging around in my box of bits I found this:

Which was never going to be used for it's intended purpose. The ID was just very slightly smaller than the tube, but hey - I've got a lathe!

    Some time later:

The removable tube is a nice, tight fit with location of about 3/4 the length of the joiner. Hose clip is positioned at the rear of the tube to keep things neat.
Sealing will be with a smear of RTV or non-hardening sealer.

While I had the grinder and electric glue gun out, I lobbed the BOV's off the front of the hat and mended the hole.
A couple of reasons for this, but you'll find out about them later

    The angry peanut is back!!!!

The plan was to reuse the BOV flanges, but I managed to FUBAR one during the recovery process.
I couldn't find one locally today, and as I have the patience of....well...a hot rodder I broke out the lathe and very-nears and got to work:

The finished product ticks all of the boxes. Aside from concerns about fuel ****ing out of the BOV's voiced by Ivanheow, the aesthetic of this (and the main reason I did it - TBA) is far better.

Poor old peanut though. Not only has it got a broken arm, now it has carbunkles on it's elbows!
