bit of a question for you . car is hard to push forward but when jacked up the wheels turn freely . but when both wheels are run forwards they are hard to turn. is this normal for this jag rear end or is there something wrong( have noticed it has been leaking oil) any help would be much appreciated . body is back off to sort the rear hubs as the bearings have gone on the drivers side and to set all the coilovers so car sits at the correct ride height and the frame wants drilling so the exhaust can come out through the back of the sill. more at the weekend

Sorry to hear of your troubles, after all the work you've put into this build the last thing you want is fixing it instead of driving it. If this is any help , jack up the rear end and rotate both rear wheels at the same time as if the car was moving forward with the prop disconnected. If it's still hard to turn look at the diff , if it's easy the look at the gearbox.

had it jacked up and spinning both rear wheels forward its still hard to turn but runs freely when wheels are rotated backwards. prop is not connected so i guess it must be the diff.

Sounds like it could be the diff, but just to make sure, are you certain the brake pads are not binding ( moving) when the wheel moves in the forward direction and returns when the wheel moves in the other direction?
Just a thought, hope you find it.

The crown wheel and pinion are a matched set so do you mean you are changing the whole centre section or just the CW?

sorry meant the whole thing for another unit.

got some more tubes welded into the cage. now i know there not going to get in the way made sense to put them in after all the main parts were bolted on.

also managed to get the rear drive shaft loop done.

and started putting the holes in the side of the frame so the exhaust will come out the sill. will weld up the holes in the rear of the frame.

    more tomorrow.
