little med vid JUST OUT !
hasta la vista miene lieblings !
Well a week of frenzied activity has occured , all the wiring is now finished ,barring all the mistakes i probably made , and will have to redo ,
theres a sexy new /old fuse box on the bulkhead behind the seat , and so today i had to actually turn it all on .
Amazingly , it all seemed to work , i ha a wrong input setting for the 2nd wide band o2 sensor ,
which was easily fixed by scrolling up the selection box and realizing that megasquirt in their wisdom gives two choices for the same input port ,
and only one of them works !
i cranked the engines to log the crank sensor output , and that allowed me to wire it the right way round .
i then activated the gas supply , and heard the familiar sound of gas leaking ...
turned out to be A) a copper compression joint that had bottomed out B) a pair of flattened o rings on the gas supply elbow on the reducer
C) a jumped jubilee clip on the gas rail , D) another copper compression fitting .
so i A) made a new pipe B) fitted new elbow with new o rings C)found an even mankyer clip that worked ...and D) tightened it up .
.so all fixed.
then checked my lpg pressure gauges , one was at 17 psi ,, fine , the other was at nuffin , not fine ,
i took the gauge off and found the plastic lens was rubbing on the needle , so fixed that and had 17 psi there too .noice.
engine 2 ..
this ones dropped a bit , but that's ok ...its probably seeped out past the injectors which have not been used for a while .
i set up the wide bands ..
i had to reprogram them to put out 10:1 =0 v and 20:1 = 5 volts ...so the ecu will chat happily with them ,
and automatically set the mixture to what i want .
the ecu has its little umbilical cord..
which i can tape up and fix in permanently once i know it will all work .
so tomorrow is running car/mushroom cloud day ...
HUSTON WE HAVE A GO !!!!

Phew, just finished a complete read of all 317 pages and here we are on a cliff edge ending, waiting to see how she'll run injected.
You're an inspiration! I love the way you show every up and down of the project. So many builds are just someone with deep pockets bolting together a lorry load of catalogue parts, but your's is a truly 'I made this' car....
I have some 4.2 jag engines in my garage, but they are military issue. I've not yet needed to get inside them, but I am an expert on carb stripping now!
I'm also playing with re-mapping my Moto Guzzi and built some homebrew datalogging gear. Wideband O2 logging is on my list to do.
So lots of interesting stuff in your build, other than the general awsomeness of it!
Many thanks for taking the time to post the tale of the birth of Medusa, I am looking forward to seeing the next installment!
First of all , Ritchie ! that's a lovely post to read , thank you for writing it , i am always amazed when someone says "just read the whole thing" , makes me wish i was there watching their faces as page after page of nonsense reels by
It's simply really really nice to hear .
Also i must say , there's been a dramatic increase in positive, kind posts in the last weeks , and so i will say once again , and i know i am repeating myself and demonstrating a total lack of original script ..THANK YOU ALL.
NOW back to the reporting from the eastern front ( well ,more central really ,but it sounds more dramatic).
Yesterday my solitarynositude was , for the first time in ,well , since v went back to vancouver last september ,was graced with another living being (not counting that little troublemaking grebo THEO , who is basically trying to kill all the new cats that have moved into the 15 brand new "truman show" executive houses behind me ( which two years ago was all fields and crushed concrete )).
My visitor was my friend graham , and i actually asked for help ! ,i felt having someone there ,who knew a lot more about megasquirt than i did , and could wave a extinguisher about if i had disapeared in a ball of flame , was a good idea .not to mention he's great company .
So to cut to the chase , the day was a total failure. but if your of a mind to suffer, here's the long version ...
slightly excitedly , i jumped in , and cranked her up ,er nope... nuffin .
span over ok , but no combustionosityness ness a happenin.
i could hear the injectors clicking , so i knew we had a crank signal to the ecu , and it was telling the injectors to open. we had gas pressure on the gauges .
so we focused on sparks .was there or was there not a ht spark at the plug leads ?
pulled all 12 plugs , since the battery was not sounding to energetic , (i think it may be dying ) and wopped a plug in the coil lead for each engine , upon spinnage , no sparking on engine2 , and intermittent sparking on engine 1 ..
we pulled the trigger wire from the ecu , and by earthing them you should get a spark , this worked on E1 , but on E2 , it sounded like the spark was happening inside the msd 6 .we concluded it had died .
we then went back and forwards trying the osciloscope to see what trigger signal we had, it seemd to vary around 3 volts which is much too low , so we unplugged the throttle position sensor and the air temp and coolant temp sensors , which is everything no the 5v line , and our signal came up to 4.9 v ..then we plugged it all back in again , and the signal staved at 4.8v , weird , but hey it was better .
we then completely rewired the no 2 engine , and treid to use the original 4 pin gm module that was on there from before , no luck .we think we have misunderstood what the 5 v square wave signal is doing .
so we then focused on the front intermittent spark . we thought maybe this 5v dig square wave signal is not enough to trigger the procomp 6al (msd clone from china i think ) ,so , as an experiment , we had another ecu with a proper 12v signal spare ,so we plugged that in to see if it would then trigger the box consistently , by feeding it a 12v signal ..BINGO ...it worked .
so the whole drive your msd with a 5v dg signal does not seem to work ,like it shows in the manual .pox.
by this time by lovely soldered and taped loom was looking like it had been attacked by a robot goat , but hey , we did find stuff out .
now research goes into ignition triggers and can i or my friend andy fix the msd6 , or shall i find some logic driven vw coils down the scrappy and throw out all the msd boxes .
nil desperandum NON CEDO !
Well I sure we're all glad you weren't having all that trauma unaided Robert, way too much brain ache and fade for one man to handle alone old bean!
Your disciples still have faith in your powers even if megasquirt doesn't
Whirrr whirrr chuff chuff de chuff........chuff......BRUMMMM!

Thanks bernard , i am off tomorrow to the scrappy to see if i can find some 5v logic switched ignition coils ...
Sorry to hear of your woes Robert, I'm sure you will find some wizardry to sort it though.
I'll just put this here though my MSD6AL car did 22mpg last weekend and this weekend
Any progress on the ignition coils?
Don't keep us waiting now!
