You guys may be interested in this project I have had on the go in my garage for a while now. About 18 months ago I was given a Cobra rolling chassis which a friend had in his workshop collecting dust. I didn't particularly want to build a Cobra as you see a lot of them around here on the weekend and as there are quite a few they wont get a good resale value. Brought it home and just decided to get an engine and get the mechanicals right. But at that point no idea of what body to use.
Good engines but how far have you got in 18 months? are you still going for the 250 Testarossa body? if so how will you get the body correct scale/pannel wise, not alot of 250 around, will you be using a wood or wire buck? and what material will the body be made off. Andy
Thanks guys. The foam is Urethane foam and using 50 to 90 density. Quite a bit more expensive than Styrene foam but resin eats styrene so would have to seal styrene before resin coat. Resin can go straight onto styrene
This was sometime in March. I was assembling the body buck straight onto of the chassis.
This is the backend now. Foam is in roughly shaped at this stage all the rounding and curves still to do. There is more than 100 pieces of foam in that photo. Take forever to cut and shape each piece, much longer than I thought it would take.
Kevin
sweet dude, nice job buddy what are the other Ferraris in your workshop, and do you have the same biva regs for home made cars in south Africa or can you just register them and enjoy if so I am moving to south Africa lol.....
Jeff I am just down the road (similar latitude that is) pop in for a beer any time.
Bedy01 its a 348 spider and a Merc 280sl 107 series and its no real problem to reg a home build, roadworthy, police clearance on the engine etc little bit of running around.
Andy its about 200 thousand blocks to go and satalite tv in the garage is the only way to go.
Going back a few months. After I got the engine I couldn't fit it straight away as the lexus has a very wide V angle and after quite a lot of cutting and welding I had reduced the foot wells I finally got the engine in.
Hi Kevin “200 thousand blocks” what you building? You will need good supply of jaffa’s (biscuits) to get Jeff over to SA. Anyway that motor looking good in the chassis. Andy
