    My first custom build

I have owned this car for a few years now and am in the process of a complete custom build with it, the car is a 4 door flat top 59 Impala the metal was in good shape when I first looked at the car but the engine and box was completely shot, but I knew what I wanted to do with it so it came home with me, (on the back of a truck but it was still mine)

The plan's for the car is to have her back on the road for next year at the latest but I know it wont be fully finished, I am putting a 500 caddy engine in it with a TH400 box connecting to a V12 Jag IRS the front end will be converted to disk brake and am looking at uprating the suspension and steering as well. The body will be de chromed and a two tone metallic paint scheme with ghost flames. The interior is going to be nothing like the original apart from the instrument cluster design all be it with digital gauges, the seating will be for 4, 2 seats in the front out of a Lexus and 2 in the back from the front of the Jag XJS, I have finished all the main welding now and am about to start running all the pipe's on the chassis (Brake,Fuel & Exhaust that will be in 3.5" running on the outside of the chassis to a set of Warlock Bypass Series Mufflers and Electric Exhaust Cutouts.

Below are a few pictures of the car and its progress so far

I'm not one for taking loads of pictures and so I apologise now if I don't keep you updated with the progress, If there is any one in Norwich and have nothing to do over the weekends fell free to get in touch as sometimes I cant see the wood for the trees and an extra pair of eyes and hands is helpful

Hi Impala 500, car looks like a great project.
Have the evening off this Wednesday (17th) and meet us at the Railway Pub in Wymondham, I know nothing useful but some of the club guys know a bit about chopping cars about.
    Cheers, Bob. Norfolk Street Cruisers.
Norfolk 'n' good but Suffolk 'n' what.

Good to see its taking shape at last! What was the rear screen surround metalwork like? When I removed my rear screen most of the metal work came away with it....

If you're fitting a new rubber to the rear screen get one from SteeleRubber, not cheap (about £150) but fit very well. The manual shows how to re-install it (you need to tie or tape the rubber in place to stop it popping off the glass) if you haven't got a manual let me know & I'll copy the relevant bits for you.

There was very little welding to do on hole car, BUT I have had to re work the front floor pan to get it flat as the original one went up from the doors to the centre, The area that needed the most work was the bottom of both rear arches just behind the rear doors and a bit under the rear screen again near the rear doors.
Sorry the front seat has all-ready gone, I do still have the rear though?
