Thanks, I've got 8 to go, but out of metal now, wont be able to get anymore til after the bank holiday, ideally it should have been made upside down so that the welds are less prominent, but the grill shell (such as it is) is too flimsy to work off the car, and it would never fit afterwards!

got the boot latch now so I'll have a go at fitting that; bottom hoses are on order, fan belt, and dip stick have disappeared, I've got a bar-b-que skewer stuffed in it's place!

Thanks for the heads up, ironically about an hour earlier I drove right past my nearest branch of Buy&Que but it turns out they don't have stock!

Thanks guys; spent a few hours today beating the bonnet (hood) back into shape, hasn't come out too bad, (It looks a bit like either someone sat on it or else walked on it),I've been getting the vibe that this car spent some time in a scrap yard, as all the doors have had a repair at the top of the window opening, damage consistent with slinging it with chains to hoist it onto the pile! to be honest the whole car really needs painting, but we'll put that off for as long as possible!

You’re doing a cracking job. It were mine I’d paint the repairs properly, but clear coat the rest. It would be nice to see the cars story and not a faux one for a change.

Apologies for my late reply (chaley) yes I'd like to keep as much of the paint, it probably isn't all original, and the bit where it had a roof-rack fitted, and someone welded up the holes with what looks like a cutting torch, will need a bit of a look at...…

In other news, the grille is finished (more or less) it needs fettling where it meets the bonnet slam, and a general tidy up; my old SIP mig welder gave up the ghost, and left me welderless, it did last 20 years (almost to the day) but like most deteriorating relationships, we should have parted company at least 5 years ago!

Got to put my hands up to this one, at the end of year one, on a dark and frosty night I suddenly realised that the engine was full of water (no antifreeze because of the leaking water pump) so I'd better get out there and drain it, well, in the half dark the decades old hose clips weren't coming undone, so I made the executive decision to cut the bottom hoses, I reasoned that they were old and perished, and I could put new flexy hoses on, well it turns out the flexy hoses don't work coz the 90 deg bend is all at one end!

Anyway I've balmed some pipes on just to run it with some water in, (which I have now done) but a problem from before has returned, that being that the engine runs worse and worse the longer it runs, and I'm starting to suspect that the 12 volt conversion the previous owner told me about was just the figment of an ebay listing...….

In truth I don't even know whether a 12v coil and condenser are even available for this "diving helmet" type distributor, but the misfiring has all the hallmarks of a coil breaking down.....
