    Pop project

    Hi All

I pulled this out the shed last weekend. Long story short it was a forgotten project myself and the father started 12 odd years ago when i was a teenager.

Not 100% sure on the direction we are going to take. But the plan is to put it back together as best we can for now..

I have some fairly serious work to do with no real timeline. But ill tip away as best i can and see what happens.

If anyone knows of any build threads or has information on hot rod builds or restorations for these, please link them for me

Well you have come to the right spot. There is plenty of info to be had on here and the guys are all very friendly and wise.

    Do you have the doors?

And a rough idea of what you want it to end up like?

    Engine, box, wheels diff ect.

I have every last bit of it. it was in one piece around 12 years ago.

not 100% sure on where we want to go!

I want it to look aggressive. Wider on the back for sure and a V8. Im think maybe a 1UZFE from a IS400. quite simple and reliable.

What axles and brakes do people normally use?

First thing I'd do is get it pieced back together and registered correctly as Historic. Then I'd get on with building it up using the original chassis just boxed and with bolt in crossmembers. Enginewise I'd try the Mazda MX5 four pot with a turbo kit and use as much of the Mazda running gear as possible.

Funny you should say Mx5. I have a mk1 with a turbo running about 270 hp. Im a little bit sick of mx5s now so ill probably go for something else for this project.

As well as the good info you will get on here go on the NSRA Forum then on their Popular Front. You can go on there as guest you do not have to be an NSRA member.

Look at 'frank's pop (popcorn 2)' and 'project rat look pop', both in the garage section on here.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.

Get it registered correctly and rebuilt as std first - just get together & running to get the reg sorted otherwise all your work will be for nothing.
