Hi mak205, yes I had to cut off the tube then cut down the hinge then reweld on the tube ,I did both together so they were the same ,they needed to be clamped together and a rod through the tubes to keep them straight, but it was trial and error though ,Cheers.

Hi engine time, I jet washed it yesterday and used a tip off Johnathan W on YouTube who builds rat rods from scrap, he uses oven cleaner to clean engines , so 2 can later and one clean engine,( no pics though) , so today I started to strip the engine ,top end first , after getting the heads off I was surprised to find honing marks on the bores , and the pistons have 045 o/s on them, then I turned the engine over to get at the bottom where I remove a big end cap and again I found the bearing with virtually no wear and with 010 u/s marked , so I’m just going to strip out the cam and have a look, may put a stage one cam in though not sure, and on stripping the heads all the bolts had copper grease on them, so after a good clean inside and out I’m going to paint it then rebuild the top end with the unleaded heads I’ve got, pics soon cheers.

Another Jonathan W fan, eh? lol. I could've told you about Cillit Bang Oven cleaner a long time ago (very good at decoking 6 cylinder Rover engines!)
