    StormFighter

Well I asked the question and it looks like there's an interest in a bike build so here goes:
After a lifetime of Bike ownership I've owned some really nice bikes and some really ****e bikes.
In the past ten years or so I've owned a Ducati S4, a Triumph speed 4 (600), a Triumph Daytona 595, a '99 Fireblade, an 02 Honda Firestorm and lastly a 2005 Fireblade that was sold about a year ago.
The one thing that all of these had in common was that they were too nice to cut up, despite my hankering to build a streetfighter.
The lack of bike has been slowly niggling at me, resulting in a late-night 'auction site' expedition that resulted in this:

2001 Honda Firestorm. 1,000cc of V-Twin loveliness. This one, however is reasonably fubar'd.
I runs OK, but the fairing is split & cracked as is the seat fairing. The seat's ripped, the gear lever is bent and the tank is dented. The exhaust cans were held together with aluminium tape, and the wiring loom looks like it was repaired by Stevie Wonder's dog. And not his guide dog.

Still, none of that matters as it's going to be a 'fighter'!

OK, so I've hoyed of the fairing and seat fairing. Unbelievably they've been sold!

Just trying out stuff, I had a few spares left over from the last 'Blade so they are the logical place to start.

    First off, Double-bubble smoked screen:

Needs to be at a steeper angle but I think we have a winner.

Then the lardy-arsed seat fairing was replaced by the 'Blade one. Remarkably it fits well and only needs a couple of small brackets to secure it. I also had a single-seat hump which was lobbed into the pot:

The new exhaust cans came from a Kawasaki 1400:

They are immensely long, but with the help of a grinder and a small tiggery they'll work just fine.

That only leaves the ubiquitous Renthal bars. these came via TradeMe complete with the clamps for $90NZ (45 quid).

With a couple of spacers turned up:

they'll miss the fork legs and look very fightery.

Did I mention it was going to be a budget build? Bike was $1200, Cans were $50, Bars at $90, less sale of the fairing at -$50.

    Thumbs up

Sweet! I've only recently restarted my foray in to motorbikes, ie got a bike licence
Have an idea what a streetfighter is gonna look like. Google shows that 100bhp twin is a huge stunner! Will it be exposed in some way?

    Yes, no fairing.
The only problem with the 'exposure' of the VTR are the twin radiators that hang at the side of the bike which look pig-ugly - but I'm working on it!

    MYTHING is online now
Im sure given your fabricating skills you'll find an old tin bath chop it up, bend it and make a pair of medieval jousting helmets to cover the radiators

    Bars on:

Controls are fine. There's plenty of length in the wiring looms so they won't need extending.
It will need new brake and clutch hoses, but as I work for a HEL dealer I don't foresee a problem
The throttle cables have been re-routed around the back of the forks and now work OK and don't over-stretch on full lock.
In this photo you can also see one of the hideous side-mounted radiators:

On to headlights, they have to be twin lamps. It's written in the great book of streetfighter:

These are from a Yamaha FZR 250 and are so much better than the aftermarket Chinese variety of plastic ****e. The other advantages are that they have full adjustments and I got two sets for $50NZ!
They will have to go up by about 50mm and back about 120mm to improve the aesthetics.

Moving the gauges up, I started with this:

Hacked it about and cut off all of the useless lumps.

Then made it into this (crap photo. Sorry!)

I wanted to move the lights back as far as poss, but this got in the way:

So I cut it out, reinforced the bracket and tried again:

Gauges up and lights in the right place. I still need to add lower mounts for the lights and sort the screen mounts:
